13. How does TekMark's Internal Casing Lifter (Elevator) work?
When you receive you casing lifter it will be in a shipping tube. You push down on the main bail and attach the hook to the side bail. This will release the elevator slips from the wall of the tube. You remove the lifter from the tube and install it into a length of casing. Push down on the main bail and the hook will automatically release from the small side bail. The lifter is now locked into the casing and it can be elevated up the drill rig mast to over the bore hole. The casing length now can be lowered down the bore hole. Once casing is at proper height and is held by casing slips (holder) or some other holding method then the lifter can be released by pushing the main bail and hand latching the hook on the small side bail. Now the lifter can be extracted and taken to the next casing joint and the operating can be repeated. TekMark Casing Lifters we first patented and manufactured in 1975. There are many thousands of these unit in operation in more the 70 countries. These lifters are spring loaded. The spring is needed to force the lifter slips to the casing wall when the lifter is first inserted. This force is needed while the casing joint is elevated from a horizontal to vertical position. Once the casing joint is elevated to the vertical position the weight of the casing string forces the slips tighter and tighter. TekMark lifters are made with 1 1/4" stress proof shafts and are rated at 70,000 lbs.
14. Do I need a lifter for each size of casing?
TekMark Lifters can be adapted using conversion kit from one size to the next over a range of OD size casing from 4 1/2" thru 36" casing. These kits are made up of adapter plates of various diameters and various threaded wedges which screw onto the lifter shaft. Conversion from one size to another takes about 15 minutes.
15. How does TekMark's Casing Holder work?
TekMark's Casing Holder is configured in a rectangular frame. It has two slip elements that are constructed to fit the frame and to fit the exact diameter of a piece of casing. The Casing Holder frames comes is several standard sizes. Model H45678 can accept slip sets for 4 1/2" thru 8 5/8"; Model H1012 can accept slips from 4 1/2" thru 12 3/4"; Model H1416 can accept slip sets from 4 1/2" thru 16" and Model H 1620 can accept slip sets from 4 1/2" thru 20". TekMark Casing Holders work on the same principal as bowl slips. The slips incorporate an incline plan on the backside as does the Holder frame. TekMark's Holder also incorporate a linkage assembly with is attached to the slips and allows the operator to pull a handle and lifter the slips away from the casing while it is being lowered or lifted. This linkage system keeps the operator from placing his hands and fingers in a vulnerable position . TekMark offers some modifications to the manual holder such has pneumatic or hydraulic operation, and removable side plates so the holder can be taken horizontally off the casing string.
16. How does the TekMark Casing Spear work?
The TekMark Casing Spear attaches to your drill string. It has a release-position lock which can be activated before going down hole. This will allow you to run your drill string to the area where you wish to engage the pipe or screen. Once you are at the correct depth you turn 80 to 100 psi of air on and then off. This will set the spear so you can pull the casing or screen. If for some reason you cannot pull the assembly then turn air on while lowering the drill string to take weight off the string. This will disengage the spear from the casing and then you can trip out of the hole by reapplying air after breaking each joint. Note: if you are under water you will have to apply 80 to 100 psi of air plus enough air to lift the water column in order to activate the spear. TekMark casing spears are often used to place or pull screen, liner or casing. They work on stainless screen, PVC and steel casing. TekMark has configured casing spears to work off of compressed air bottles and a wireline (cable) thus eliminating the need for a drill rig at the location. TekMark Casing Spears can be provided in a number of sizes and can be converted from 4 1/2" OD casing through to 20" casing. We can also provide the drill string connection in a variety of sizes from 2 3/8 IF and 2 3/8 Reg through most tool joint sizes in either box or pin connections. Tool joint sizes above 3 1/2 API Reg. may add to the cost of the spear.
17. What is the TekMark Tophead Lifter Adapter used for?
The Tophead Lifter Adapter is a drill string sub with a box or pin up. The other end of the adapter is a clevis with a removable cross pin. The unit also accommodated some down plates. It is used on non-retractable tophead rigs like T4's so that casing can be elevated with the tophead. The driller uses a standard TekMark Casing Lifter and a sand line to elevate the casing from the ground or casing rack over and under the tophead. He the lines up the lifter bail eye with the Tophead Lifter Adapter cross pin and attaches the pin through the lifter eye. The tophead is then used to raise the casing over the well bore and lowered into the well. The Tophead Lifter Adapter can be configured into a number of sizes and provided in a variety of tool joint options.
18. Why are Rat Hole Drillers using Large Size Casing Holders?
TekMark Casing Holders in the 16" and 20" sizes are rated for 70,000 lbs. and are much lighter, less expensive and easier to operate on smaller drill rigs than oil field units rated at a hundred tons or more. This unit along with 16" and 20" TekMark Casing Lifters are becoming the favored tooling for water well contractors who are doing contract site preparation for oil and gas companies.
19. Where can I find a torch guide for steel well casing?
TekMark makes torch guides for all nominal OD sizes through 24". Larger sizes are available on special order.
20. What tools do you have for aligning steel casing over the bore hole?
TekMark manufactures cage type alignment clamps in any desired casing size from 4 1/2" through 60" with both light duty frames
and heavy duty frames
21. I find that I have to install some flush joint PVC casing, how do I hold it and elevate it without a collar?
You could use a TekMark Casing Lifter and Holder but if your using mostly PVC casing and using collar elevators you may not want to invest in a 70,000 lb. casing handling system. TekMark manufactures an external clamp type elevator with carbide grips for PVC, Stainless Steel and for light strings of steel casing. TekMark also has available heavy duty PVC elevators for Belled End PVC.
22. I have converted most of my customers to PVC casing from steel because of the high steel costs; what tools do you make for handling PVC?
TekMark's standard 70,000 lbs casing tools work well with PVC but TekMark makes a variety of other tools for PVC. TekMark makes special internal elevators for PVC as well as pneumatic internal DTH tools and manual DTH tools for setting PVC liner and retrieving PVC liner and casing. We also make PVC cut off guides.
23. I install submersible pumps; do you have tools for handling drop pipe and column pipe?
TekMark makes two models of drop pipe coupling elevators; Model 1-2 and Model 2-4. These chain elevators have removable skillet plates for each size drop pipe in the model range. We also make an external heavy duty holder which includes a wire guide. This holder can accommodate slips from 1" NPT through 4" NPT. It is designed on the same principles as TekMark's larger casing holders.
24. Some times I need more pullback than my rig can provide. Can you help me?
TekMark can make custom designed jacking rings for your situation. These jacking rings can be used in conjunction with 100 ton bottle jacks to provide the necessary power to free stuck casing or drill steel.
